Overview:

The U.S. Economic Research Assistant will work closely with the Chief U.S. Economist in all aspects of production of the weekly macro research product.  Day-to-day responsibilities will involve providing timely and useful analysis of macroeconomic variables and policy developments to our array of stakeholders including: the firm’s traders and salespeople, clients and members of government institutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze daily economic releases and assist Chief Economist in interpreting economic indicators
  • Track news flow and update Chief Economist on relevant developments
  • Publish reports on economic releases
  • Assist Chief Economist in publication of weekly newsletter.  Tasks include: researching, writing, analyzing data and preparing exhibits.
  • Publish calendar of economic releases and Treasury financing weekly
  • Assist Chief Economist in preparing presentations for clients and groups
  • Maintain files and databases
  • Answer questions and assist Chief Economist in providing analysis/data in response to questions
  • Brief relevant parties at weekly meetings in absence of the Chief Economist

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Undergraduate degree in Economics/Finance/Quantitative Methods preferred; other disciplines considered based on relevant experience

The MBS Allocation team will be supporting the Firm’s propriety MBS Pass-Through business which includes: TBAs allocation, EPN processing, Position Management, MBSD FICC-RTTM, Fails Management, and Pool Netting, Daily Reporting, TBA Pair off, Trade Assignment processing, and Trade Support services for the desks. The Allocator team is required to manage risk, avoid fails, and sift for valuable bonds to maximize profits. The Allocator role includes ad-hoc trading desk requests, allocation deadlines, and position management between the trade flow systems. The ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast paced environment. The Allocators are expected to navigate and utilize various tools to address customer inquiries, as well as having a good understanding of SIFMA industry guidelines pertaining to MBS allocations and settlements.

  • Manage and allocating TBA product and coupon trade flow and pool inventory on 48-hour days; processing TBA and MBS Pool Netting transactions
  • Sort for valuable bonds to maximize Trading Desk profits and reconcile positions with the RMBS Trading Desk
  • Ensuring that all trades are booked and confirmed as intended by checking the Trading system verses internal systems, liaising with Trading, Sales, Brokers, or the Counterparty directly; investigate and resolve trade exceptions
  • Manage fails by communicating with the street for prompt settlement
  • Supporting tasks relating to departmental daily, weekly, and monthly MIS reporting; participating, supporting, and testing relating to new business initiatives, as well as ongoing internal and industry business testing
  • Partnering closely with the Trading and Sales to provide the first level of control and escalation

Skills and Experience:

  • Job knowledge of the Firm’s markets, products, business, and regulations; good understanding of trade processing and settlement procedures; MBS Allocation/trade support experience, clearance experience, and Fixed Income Clearing Corp (FICC) knowledge for MBS products
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a similar role
  • Experience with Phase 3 and Mortgage Master highly desired
  • Excellent communication skills and interacts well with others appropriately
  • Experience in mortgage-backed securities
  • Solid understanding of SIFMA’s TBA Market Governance and Uniform Practices Manual

The Credit Risk Analyst role is responsible for the management of the credit risk and the counterparty credit risk exposures within established parameters. In particular, it provides risk assessment, execution and risk profile monitoring.  The analyst is an experienced team member critical to risk management and credit process, with primary account responsibility for a portfolio of counterparties across a variety of sectors.  This includes client selection, risk profile assessment, risk rating, and the ongoing monitoring of counterparty names.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide coverage for Hedge Funds, Banks, Broker Dealers, Mortgage Originators, Insurance Companies, REITs, and Government entities
  • Conduct appropriate market, industry and client credit analysis with clearly articulated recommendations on credit decisions and appropriate risk ratings.
  • Analyze credit data and financial statements to determine degree of risk involved in extending credit to customer
  • Preparation of annual credit and industry review and monitoring of monthly/quarterly financial performance when necessary
  • Credit due diligence
  • Ongoing monitoring of Counterparty performance and credit exposures with authorized credit limits and terms as well as reporting requirements
  • Identify potential problems requiring attention and recommend appropriate actions to best manage the risk in deteriorating credit situations
  • Determine credit terms based on the risk profile for legal agreements (MSFTAs/MRAs/MSLAs)
  • Apprise Head of Credit and Risk Officer of industry trends for counterparties and sectors
  • Continuous development of industry knowledge through research, contacts and participation in seminars

Basic Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree
  • 8+ years of credit risk knowledge in at least 3 of the sectors mentioned above
  • Working understanding of regulatory and liquidity risk principles
  • Knowledge of the current structures of capital markets transactions and originations
  • Working knowledge of documentations including MSFTA/MSLA/MRA
  • Good understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Tough under pressure and can deliver hard decisions

Financial Analyst is responsible for partnering across the firm to provide financial and strategic analysis, oversight, and coordination of budgeting and forecasting. Candidate will be responsible for a wide range of activities including financial control, forecasting and budgeting, analysis of financial/business metrics, delivery of weekly/monthly/quarterly management reporting, development of new reporting capabilities (e.g. dashboards), and advising on how to increase profitability and efficiencies.

You will analyze, prepare, and reconcile accounting and technical data as well as prepare reports, while always thinking of and devising ways to streamline and minimize cycle times through automated applications and process improvement. You will also help develop recommendations effecting business procedures and operations and maintain financial and reporting systems. In addition, you will assist the department and other team members with special projects or components of other projects as needed.

In the Financial Analysis role, you would be responsible for:

  1. Managing annual/continual financial planning activities for product areas, providing business rational and decisions for all month-end financial performance and forecasting, conducting reviews and analysis on product financial performance, consumption/demand planning, budgeting, billing, trends, and exception reports
  2. Efficiency reporting, analytics and strategy – including, but not limited to – location strategy, span of control, reporting and analytics
  3. Creating financial business cases supporting business initiatives
  4. Reporting on and monitoring key metrics, driving data quality initiatives across the product area, and helping define future needs of the product area
  5. Developing and tracking performance metrics, creating presentations, and generally providing financial analysis on a variety of topics to senior management
  6. Performing variance analysis to understand the key drivers of the results and presenting commentary to senior managers, explaining changes from prior forecasts/budgets
  7. Helping design new reports and dashboards to efficiently deliver the financial results to senior management

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a subject of a technical nature
  2. 5+ years of work experience, preferably in Financial Services, and/or accounting/controller background

  4. Proficiency with data mining/gathering and manipulation of data sets
